About Renuvion

Renuvion isn’t your typical loose skin treatment—it doesn’t actually remove any skin or require long incisions. Instead, it delivers precise, controlled heat to your skin’s underlying structures and tissues, improving the appearance of essentially any area that needs it. (2)

Loose Skin—Why Does it Happen?

Loose skin can cause self-consciousness, lumpiness beneath clothing, and it can make patients feel like they haven’t really completed their weight loss journey. It can also cause bothersome chafing and be more prone to skin irritation.

We are seeing more and more loose skin patients, and there is a reason for that!

With the advent and widespread use of GLP-1s like semaglutide and tirzepatide, many patients are able to achieve substantial weight loss at a comparatively rapid rate. While healthy weight loss can be beneficial in many ways, it can also result in excessive amounts of loose skin that simply will not tighten up on its own.

Other patients see loose skin due to the natural effects of aging, or even as the result of a fat removal procedure like liposuction. We often recommend Renuvion after a liposuction procedure to tighten the skin in the treated areas.

Renuvion is perfect for the mild to moderate loose skin that can remain after liposuction, helping you achieve an even more sculpted figure.

Who is Renuvion For?

You may be a good candidate for Renuvion if you:

  • Are interested in addressing mild to moderate skin laxity
  • Want to tighten your skin without skin removal
  • Have realistic expectations
  • Are in good general health
  • Are willing to quit smoking, if applicable

If you have a lot of loose, hanging skin, you may be a better candidate for exisional skin removal.

During your consultation, Dr. Hvistendahl will assess your candidacy and determine whether Renuvion aligns with your aesthetic goals and natural anatomy.

Procedure

Dr. Hvistendahl performs Renuvion treatments on an outpatient basis, meaning you do not have to stay overnight in the hospital.

This procedure’s duration can vary depending on whether you are receiving it as a standalone treatment or alongside another. The size and location of the treatment areas can also impact the duration. In any case, a Renuvion treatment often takes between 30 minutes and 2 hours to complete.

Once you arrive for your appointment, Dr. Hvistendahl and his team will proceed with the following steps:

  1. Review of the procedure and expectations
  2. Cleansing the skin and anesthesia administration
  3. Create small incisions in the treatment area
  4. Insert the small Renuvion probe
  5. The probe will emit a combination of RF energy and helium plasma
  6. Skin contraction will be initiated
  7. Incisions will be closed

Renuvion is a well-tolerated procedure with a high safety profile, especially with an experienced plastic surgeon such as Dr. Hvistendahl.

Recovery

After your Renuvion procedure, you may experience some swelling, tenderness, or redness around the treatment area. These effects are temporary and will subside on their own, but to ensure the best possible results, we recommend that you:

  • Take it easy for approximately one to two days before returning to desk work or other light activities.
  • Wear any compression garment Dr. Hvistendahl provided to you as directed.
  • Avoid any strenuous or physically demanding tasks until you have been cleared to return.
  • Be mindful of your treatment areas.

Dr. Hvistendahl will provide you with any additional instructions during your consultation. If any questions or concerns arise as you recover, we encourage you to contact us for assistance.

Results

You may be able to notice some immediate improvements in the appearance of your skin, but it can take between six and nine months for you to see your full results. As your skin’s internal collagen levels increase, you can expect to see:

  • Tighter and Smoother Skin
  • More Defined Contours
  • A More Youthful Look

The results of Renuvion are long-lasting, with many of Dr. Hvistendahl’s patients enjoying their renewed appearance for years. However, you must retain a healthy lifestyle and stable weight to preserve the effects of your procedure long-term.

Cost of Renuvion in Marin County

The cost of your Renuvion procedure will vary depending on certain factors in your treatment plan, including the size of your targeted treatment area, your desired results, whether Dr. Hvistendahl performs any additional treatments during your appointment, and more.

Once he has discussed each of these items with you during your consultation, he will give you a cost estimate for your procedure. PSSG also offers financing if you are interested, and we can help you navigate the process to help you attain your aesthetic goals without the financial strain.
