Best Candidate for Breast Enhancement
Anyone wishing to enhance the size and shape of their breasts could be a potential candidate for breast augmentation. Breast augmentation is ideal for women who have lost breast volume due to pregnancy or weight loss. Candidates who come to our Greenbrae office for Breast Augmentation should be healthy enough to have surgery and understand that there is always a risk of complications that could possibly require additional surgery in the future, potentially to remove or replace implants.
Candidates for Natural Breast Augmentation should understand that this process, while lower risk, is generally best for women who only want to increase their breast volume by a cup size or two.
Breast Augmentation Procedure
Traditional Breast Augmentation is a relatively simple plastic surgery procedure with only a few steps. It does, however, call for preparation. First, it is important to decide which breast implants are right for you. There are two main types of breast implants used for Breast Augmentation: saline and silicone. After choosing your breast implant, you and your surgeon can determine the best incision placement for you. Generally your placement choices for Breast Enhancement will be inframammary, transaxillary, or periareolar. Each incision type is made in an inconspicuous area that can be easily hidden.
Natural Breast Augmentation collects the necessary fat for the augmentation from your body via Liposuction. Thus, the Natural Breast Augmentation procedure offers the added benefit of improving contours in the area of the body (stomach, hips, thighs, etc.) from which the fat is removed. The fat cells are enriched and then injected into the breasts.
Post Breast Enhancement Procedure
The Breast Augmentation procedure using implants may require general anesthesia and should take a little over an hour to complete. Normal hospital recovery time is between 24 to 48 hours. After you go home, you'll need to take it easy for a few days.
The Natural Breast Augmentation procedure is generally an all day affair, because it includes Liposuction and fat cell enrichment before the fat injection can begin. Breast Enlargement via fat injection is virtually pain free and requires no general anesthesia. Nor is there any hospital recovery time. Results of both implants and fat transfer can be seen right away. Costs can vary for each individual, but we are proud to offer affordable Breast Augmentation and affordable plastic surgery for patients from Greenbrae, Larkspur, Corte Madera, Mill Valley, Santa Rosa, San Rafael, and other nearby communities.

- Is there any relationship between implants and breast cancer or breast masses?
There is no relationship between implants and cancer. Rarely, a leaking silicone implant can result in a lump which could be confused for breast mass. Studies have shown that patients who developed breast cancer with implants usually present at an earlier stage because they are used to frequent examinations and mammograms.
- What is recovery like?
Breast augmentation itself takes about 1½ hours. Most patients can leave the surgical facility within an hour. Due to meticulous way in which we perform the surgery, it is usually possible to resume normal activities of daily living the day following surgery. Most patients can resume work in 2-5 days with gradual resumption of exercise at 7-10 days. We generally recommend follow up at 1 week, 1 month, and 1 year.
- Is there a way to see what I would actually look like with a given implant?
Yes we are one of the few practices with 3-D imaging technology that allows us to show you what your body would look like with different sizes and shapes of implants.
- What size of implant should I have?
Obviously, there is a lot of room for subjective variations in implant size. The most important thing is to choose an implant in a size range that can be tolerated by your tissue characteristics. A patient with paper-thin skin and no soft tissue coverage cannot tolerate the same-size implants as someone with a C-cup breast and elastic skin. In general, we ask you to consider your preferred cup size and we will discuss how this is converted to an implant volume. Often perusing multiple breast augmentation before and after pictures is a good way to be sure we have the same expectations. It is not unusual for patients to say, “I wish I had gone a little larger” and later be glad they did not. We will take the time to help you choose what is right for you.
- What is the most common potential problem after breast implant?
Every elective procedure has one major “trade off” that must be considered. With the breast implants, this is the tendency of the body to form scar tissue around the implant, which it recognizes as a foreign material. We call this scar tissue a capsule, and the process by which it may thicken, a capsular contracture. There is no way to predict the exact potential for this problem in a given individual. Statistics with modern implants indicate that greater than 90% of patients maintain softness following implantation. Even those who develop some capsular contracture do not require re-operation in most cases. However, somewhere around 3-5% of patients will develop significant firmness. The vast majority of these can be corrected by secondary operation, which removes the scar tissue and replaces the implants.
- What is the Cost of Breast Augmentation?
There is no set price for breast augmentation in San Francisco because it can vary based on the patient's experience and what all they need. We offer very cheap breast augmentation in Marin County.
