Gynecomastia (or Male Breast Reduction) is an increased in the size of the male breast. Although, there are occasional medical conditions that can cause enlargement of the male breast for the majority of individuals, this is an esthetic problem.

Q: Can my excessive breast tissue be removed with liposuction alone?
A: In most cases, gynecomastia can be significantly improved if not eliminated with liposuction alone, especially with the use of ultrasonic liposuction (Vaser or LipoSelection). The breast can be adequately contoured with this technique. It does require some elasticity of the skin in order for it to retract once the excessive tissue is removed. If there is significant sagging of the skin or size similar to a female breast, it may be necessary to reposition the nipple to achieve the best contour and this could result in additional scarring.
Q: Will my excess breast tissue recur?
A: In most cases correction of this problem is permanent and natural male contours can be achieved.
Q: How long does the surgery take and what is recovery like?
A: Surgery varies from 1 2 hours. Recovery usually involves 3-4 days until normal activities can be resumed, with the vigorous activities within 1-2 weeks. Bruising in the first few days is not unusual.
Q: What are the possible problems associated with male breast reduction?
A: Slight skin irregularities can occur following liposuction excision of gynecomastia. If there is a significant amount of fibrous breast tissue, an incision could be required in order to remove it. Temporary numbness or hypersensitivity of the breast can occur but usually resolves within weeks.
